No.4 Christmas Panto Featuring Aladdin

The Aladdin story originates in the "Tales of the Arabian Nights", and in today's pantomime version it is set in China.

The Pantomime tells the story of Aladdin, son of a poor widow in Peking. Originally she was called 'Widow Ching Mustapha', but today is know as 'Widow Twankey'. Twankey was the popular tea at the time.

Aladdin is one of the most spectacular pantomimes, often with lavish scenery, a glittering transformation scene in the cave of jewels, and very often a flying carpet to add to the magic. Along with Widow Twankey the most popular characters are: Slave of the Ring, Genie of the Lamp, Abanazar, not forgetting Wishee Washee.
